How Apia rewards
We may be in the twilight of our
lives, but we still need to nurture our
growth and development.
What better way to achieve
these things than through the fun,
friendship and fellowship of Probus!
Many things are happening in our
organisation as we strive to adjust
and grow to provide you with the
services you require to make the most
of your membership and enjoyment of
life in retirement.
We recently held the PSPL
Annual General meeting. Your
PSPL Directors for the current
year (2014-2015) are listed on the
publishing panel on page four and
on the Probus website.
All have pledged to work hard to
guide and direct our organisation to
better serve you in the year ahead.
Immediately following the Annual
General Meeting and Board Meeting,
we conducted the annual training
weekend for our ‘ground troops’, the
RDPC’s who have the task of looking
after existing clubs and forming new
Probus clubs to expand the benefits
Probus in the community.
It was indeed unfortunate that
we had to cancel the Sydney
Rendezvous 2014 due to lack of
registrations. PSPL thanks LOUD
Events for its dedication to Probus
and the Rendezvous. The Board is
reviewing the concept and demand for
Rendezvous in the future. We would
love to hear your opinion. Please use
the survey form that came with the
advice of cancellation, to send your
ideas to the Secretariat.
I am always pleased to see the
enthusiasm and enjoyment of
members. Unfortunately, while young
at heart, many clubs are ageing and
dwindling in membership, and some
have had to close due to the lack of
volunteers for committees. Growth
is essential to the success of our
organisation. This year we are making
a concerted effort with our RDPCs
to help existing clubs that have
declining memberships and to work
with Rotary to form new clubs.
Many of you may have seen the
Probus commercial, developed in
conjunction with NBN3 television,
who have been very generous in
airing it in prime time. Our first
commercials have already produced
a large response. You can see the
commercial on the Probus website.
PSPL will be writing to all
community and commercial television
stations to seek their support in
airing the Probus commercial. I
encourage all Probus clubs to contact
local radio stations and organise a
monthly report on its activities as a
brand awareness campaign in the
community. The Probus Jingle is
available to add to this promotion.
More than 200 Probus club
members recently enjoyed an exciting
Christmas in July getaway on Norfolk
Island. If you missed out this year,
make sure you get in early next year
when Norfolk Island will host the
event again. A line-up of entertainers
will be announced in our next issue.
The Nerada Tea Probus Star
competition is in full swing and we
look forward to seeing the face of the
winning celebrity on the front cover
of the December 2014/January 2015
issue. Good luck to the finalists and
thank you for sharing your stories
of why you joined Probus and what
makes you an active retiree. You can
view the latest finalists on page 50.
Entries are also flooding in for
the Probus National Photographic
Competition that always has an
amazing array of prizes, thanks to
our generous sponsors. See more
on page 53.
So much to do and so much fun
to be had on the great journey of life!
Especially if you have the fellowship
of good friends and the will to explore,
dream and discover the opportunities
