VIEW FROM THE CHAIR
What a year!
2013 has been a busy year of many firsts and has seen Probus move in
leaps and bounds towards being the social club of choice in retirement.
Why is it that every year seems to pass
more quickly than the one before? As
we look back over this year we recall
the historic handover of the Probus
Trademarks back to Probus South Pacific
Limited (PSP), the completion of the PSP
Five-year Constitutional Review of the
Standard Probus Club Constitution,
the work to develop state- and territory-
based incorporated Model Constitutions,
adoption of a new PSP Company
Constitution, the appointment of two
senior Rotarians to the PSP Board, and
a new structure of the PSP Nominating
Selection Committee that now includes
annual appointments of two Probus
members from the area of selection.
As you can imagine, this year has
been very demanding on our resources
and our administration staff, yet our
team has managed to provide a high
standard of service to members across
2186 Probus clubs.
Over the past 12 months they have
responded to 39,000 telephone calls,
posted out more than 30,000 items by
mail, assisted more than 11,000 Probus
members with Probus Travel Insurance,
distributed more than 330,000 Active
Retirees magazines and responded to
more than 70,000 emails. These are
all great achievements in customer
service and are a real testament to the
dedication and commitment of the PSP
Board and the Secretariat staff. PSP
is committed to guaranteeing a sound
future for our great organisation.
We have had the opportunity to
showcase Probus on national television
and across community and commercial
radio stations, and to have a presence
at Lifestyle and Retirement Expos, all of
which has led to wider brand awareness.
Our goal is to have Probus recognised as
the social club of choice in retirement.
As we come to the completion of our
internal Five-year Strategic Plan, the PSP
Board has been working through the
transition period and the development
of a new strategic plan.
An integral part of our strategy is
to improve communication to provide
Probus club members with information
that delivers a true understanding of
the aims and objectives of the Probus
organisation, the leadership role of
the PSP Board, the structure and the
administration, as well as the benefits of
Probus club membership.
To this end PSP has developed a
handbook as a new communication tool
for all Probus club members, which will
be delivered through club Management
Committees. The handbook, aptly named
Your Passport to Probus, has been
developed through member feedback
from focus groups and research.
The booklet will be a quick guide
that will provide accurate information
and access to a wide range of unique
products, services and benefits designed
to help you make the most of your
Probus club membership.
PSP is here to assist and guide clubs
through sound knowledge and experience
we are your helpline to ensure you enjoy
fun, friendship and fellowship in Probus.
In closing, my wife Judi and I wish
you all a great festive season ahead.
I encourage you to do as I do: count
your blessings, not your troubles,
and count your age by your friends
in Probus and not your years.
