Active Retirees : Active Retirees Oct-Nov 2012
Active RetireesTM | 51 Hills. Apart from the celebrant causing a little consternation by arriving late, the wedding went smoothly and was shared with many of the friends who had helped bring Bev and Lloyd together. “It’s a chance again at something precious,” says Bev of meeting and marrying Lloyd, and the couple clearly has every intention of enjoying each moment of their new life together in full – their now-combined schedules look as though they would wear two 20-somethings out! “We go to lots of functions together and travel fairly often for his work in the Margaret River region. He also plays vets hockey, so I go along every Saturday in the season, admittedly with my iPad, but I must say it does not always get turned on.” Then there is walking her much loved West Highland White Terrier, working out with her home gym gear, cooking, helping friends to decorate their houses, looking after investment properties and travelling. “We are off on a Christmas and New Year cruise of South America and the Antarctic Peninsula,” Bev says. So, does Bev Margetts ever take her foot off life’s accelerator? “Not a lot,” she admits. “But I like to have the odd day at home ‘vegging out’.” •• TakE ThE PlungE If anyone is an active retiree, it’s Bev, and she has some wise advice for anyone who is viewing retirement with trepidation. “Come along to a Probus meeting. Meet active people and enjoy the meetings as well as the outings,” she advises. And to anyone who doesn't have her positive attitude towards retiring? “Attend all the things you never had time for when working, have a great network of friends and stay in contact with your friends,” she says. ! "It's a chance again at something precious." Bev and Lloyd celebrated their marriage with the friends who brought them together.
