The library is the largest at sea and its tomes are housed in polished walnut and glass cases set in a room with chairs and sofas. Along with the books and countless magazines, The library often displays rare literary works, such as the priceless Matthew Flinders’ collection, including the explorer’s handwritten journal and logbook from his epic circumnavigation of Australia in 1801-03. Sailing queen Watching the enormous Queen Mary II sail into Sydney Harbour on five previous world voyages, a flotilla of small craft following in her wake, onlookers lining the headlands and helicopters buzzing overhead, caroline gladstone has always wondered what the fuss is all about. This year, she was lucky enough to find out.
