Active Retirees : Active Retirees Oct-Nov 2012
Active RetireesTM | 7 view from the chair Congratulations to our new clubs and welcome to the wonderful world of Probus. The first year is one of great expectations and the excitement of making new friends and visiting interesting places. Enjoy this new experience. I have been delighted to attend many special club occasions and to present certificates celebrating anniversaries. In some instances I have joined together with Rotarians from the sponsoring Rotary Club. It is a wonderful experience to see the fellowship and friendship in the clubs and in particular clubs who have had to face changes such as becoming ‘Combined’. In the past few months I have been delighted to receive calls from clubs who have been successful with membership development ideas. One such club, 20 years of age, had eight new members in seven months. How does your club welcome visitors and new members? Let me relate a special experience. On a recent visit to a club I was handed a welcome message, the size of a business card, made by a club member; a member was then asked to look after me for the meeting. Does your club have a special welcome for visitors? I am confident the 2012-13 committee members have enjoyed their time on the committees. It is now time to start planning for the new committee elections at the Annual General Meeting in March. Planning will ensure the stability, viability, effective management and effective leadership of your club. If you are unsure of the way to proceed, contact PSPL or your Rotary District Probus Chairman (RDPC). PSPL has templates and many resources to assist you, and your RDPC will guide you in all aspects of club procedures. Also, each year, on a rotational basis, members are elected to the PSPL Board. Nominations must be submitted before 31 December each year for the positions advertised. See page 14 for more information. Individual Club Membership lists will be sent to each club for updating and return to PSPL. Clubs will also receive Membership Cards, which will contain the club name, person’s name and Probus Member Number. These cards will be issued to each financial Probus member via the club secretary. They will be essential for members wishing to claim benefits under the Probus Membership Benefits Scheme, about which more information will soon be sent to club secretaries. The Standard Probus Club Constitutional Review is now at Stage Three. Proposed amendments will be sent to Probus clubs seeking your support or objection. Lastly, thank you and congratulations to the Palmerston North Organising Committee. Once again Probus members enjoyed outings, entertainment and the friendly hospitality of fellow Probians. The 2013 Rendezvous will be in Albury Wodonga 13-18 October. Start planning a club trip to coincide with the dates, to see the tourist attractions of the area and make new Probus friends. Enjoy Probus – tomorrow’s vision for active retirees – and share it with others. Margaret Robinson Chairman 2012-13 We welcome new clubs and new members, and continue planning for our future.
