Active RetireesTM | 39 QWhenItrytoopenan email attachment it will only open in Wordpad. How can I change this? A This can happen with all sorts of files. For instance your computer may be set up to always open Word documents with the file extension '.doc' in Text Edit, or pictures or photos with the file extension '.jpg' in Paint. To change this setting on a PC, open 'My Computer' with a double click and then select a drive or folder. Click on the Tools menu and then Folder options, then select the File Types tab. When this opens you will see a window with a long list of file types. These are indicated by the file extension '.doc' , '.jpg' , '.pdf' etc, which reflects the program the file was created in. Scroll down the list until you find the file type you need to set up, then click on it and select the Change box. This will open another list of programs already installed on your computer. When you find the one you want to always open that file select it, then click 'OK' . For instance you may have Picassa graphics installed to open .jpg files, so any time you have an attachment labelled .jpg and you click to open it, Picassa will open it up.
