Active RetireesTM | 11 WALk this WAy By Richard cann coogee to La Perouse, sydney Length: 15km Difficulty: Moderate W: www.walkingcoastalsydney.com.au It's whale-watching season in Sydney, an ideal time to take in the spectacular cliffs, headlands and beaches of the eastern suburbs. Tourists, joggers and dog walkers flock to the coastal stretch between Coogee and Bondi. However, those looking to soak up the views without the crowds should head south from Coogee to La Perouse. This 15km walk begins with a paved track past the baths of Coogee, takes in rock-hopping at Lurline Bay and the occasional detour along roads as it follows the coast. After passing Maroubra Beach, the walk heads inland to bypass the rifle ranges of Malabar Headland, although this area is in the process of becoming Sydney’s newest national park, with plans for public access due in 2013. Once reunited with the coast at Malabar Beach, the walk heads past beautiful natural rock art and through four golf courses. As you skirt the fourth golf course, pause to take in the historic fortifications of Fort Banks and Henry Head, and remnants of the 1937 wreck of the Minmi. Regular buses run from Central Station to both Coogee and La Perouse. High-tech scams target super The Australian Crime Commission (ACCC) has warned that the nation’s pool of superannuation is at increasing risk from cyber criminals. A highly sophisticated new wave of superannuation investment scams, involving cold calls and professional looking websites, has resulted in more than 2400 Australians losing $93 million. Individual losses have been as high as $4 million, with some victims losing their entire super savings. The ACCC has warned however, that this number is almost certainly lower than reality, with many victims not reporting the scam. With 40 per cent of victims estimated to be over 55, the scammers are hitting people on the verge of retirement, significantly affecting their savings pool.
