10 | www.probussouthpacific.org NEWS Probus South Pacific (PSP) opened it new office doors at George St, Parramatta on 18 May with drinks, canapes and a ribbon cutting-ceremony, marking growth for the organisation. Members of the current Board of Directors John Lewis, Gary Blackler, Don Wylie, Veronica Semmler, David Allen, Bill Lake and Murray Jensen looked on as Chairman Margaret Robinson, together with Immediate Past Chairman Ken Brand cut the ribbon, declaring the offices officially open. Margaret Robinson welcomed everyone including many Probians and Rotarians noting the influence and support that Rotary has provided. "The centre became known in 1985 as The Probus Centre -- South Pacific and was housed in a small office together with the Rotary Down Under magazine, Rotary Supplies division and the regional Office of the Rotary International," she explained. Margaret acknowledged the organisation's roots, thanking past Board members for their commitment to Probus and involvement in the growth of the organisation, and Rotary for forming the Probus Clubs. "It is Rotary's best Community Service Activity for our ageing population," she said. Margaret and Ken presented a plaque recognising the opening, and then unveiled the 'Honour Board' , which recognises past Chairmen of Probus South Pacific, of whom eight -- Bob Bensley, Boyd Ackland, Jean Burford, Bob Gillespie, Ken Brand, Chris Norwood, Eric van Leeuwen and Geoff McLennan -- were present to mark the occasion. Probus South Pacific staff members were invited to come forward to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of General Manager Pat Atkinson, not only during the move to the new offices, but generally for the Probus organisation. Music, fun and fellowship were the highlights of the historic evening with more than 80 guests inspecting the impressive new offices.
